At midnight, a 1.5-mile-long fireworks display will erupt on the city’s lakefront and along the Chicago River, marking the city’s entry into the market in 2022.
“This will be the largest firework display in the city’s history, and one of the largest in the world,” Arena Partners CEO John Murray is producing the show two years after being interrupted by the COVID pandemic. Activities, he said in a statement.statement.
The show will be arranged as a “special music score” and will be performed simultaneously at eight independent launch sites along the Chicago River, Lake Michigan, and Navy Pier.
City officials said that although the historic display occurred at a time when COVID cases surged, they encouraged residents to celebrate the holiday safely.

The show will be broadcast live on NBC 5′s “Very Chicago New Year” program and will be broadcast live on the NBC Chicago app.
